It required a massive effort and perseverance by CTI to achieve, but outward processing (OP) for Canadian textiles is finally a reality!
It was passed by the Cabinet Treasury Board Committee on May 1, and is now available to be used.
OP provides duty-free entry or reduced duties for imported garments made in GPT countries (less-developed countries eligible for the General Preferential Tariff) with Canadian textiles. In order to be considered "Canadian", textiles used in the manufacture of these garments must generally undergo a change in tariff classification and cannot contain more than 50% imported materials.
