TRADE/TARIFFS

Canada’s textile industry operates in a global competitive environment, and information related to international trade, trade agreements, and tariffs is crucial to Canadian textile firms successfully doing business in Canada and in export markets. 

From its inception, CTI has actively represented the textile industry’s interests in trade issues.

Since 1989, these have included:

  • the negotiation of the Canada-U.S. Free Trade Agreement;
  • the Uruguay round of multilateral trade negotiations;
  • the negotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA);
  • various bilateral free trade agreements (Canada-Israel; Canada-Costa Rica; Canada-EFTA; Canada-Singapore; Canada-Chile; Canada-CARICOM: Canada-Dominican Republic; Canada-Central American 4; Canada-South Korea; etc.)
  • the Doha round of multilateral trade negotiations;
  • the negotiation of a Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA);
    etc.
